Ok so the final stage is done, I added more details and refined some shapes, but it is still a concept I will not go on top to the final production stage. I call it complete, as I have added some few layer effects for adjustment of color etc to give it abit more sci fi dark look. Hope you like it!

Okej, so I have sketched kinda random with a custom brush. I am so far not done completely with the rough part yet.If you can squint your eyes you can see they looks like ship, thats what I wanted now it is time to refine the details by using a default brush with opacity 50-70%

Oh and btw I forgot to explain they are not any ships, they are built by garbage just like the movie from district9. You get the idea.

Alright, so here is the second update. I have no idea where all the parts would fit but with help of the texture and the silhouette of the hoverships,I almost know where the parts leads. But again this is only the rough part, I used one simple brush to add the rough details by color pick from the textures.Now when I have a perspective of the crafts it is time to connect the color parts. More to come next part :)

I discovered a new method, it sounds crazy but it works. It is a quick way to do, instead of painting from scratch I save lots of time doing this.First I did random silhouttes of the hoverships and then I added some random textures as overlay. I created then an extra layer under the texture overlay and start with the default brush black and added some dark area to cover some details.More to come next!

This is actually my first character concept ever, I try my best anyways, I havent used any textures or ref, I used the same technique as Feng does.Probably one of the most challenge and first attempt beginning of concept character in future. I want to show how far I can go with concept character, I am no good butI know through practise I can do more awesome character. Heeeey, long time yes!
I havent been able to paint anything on my freetime work. My whole lifetime are almost in 3D. That means I go to work, produce 3d, in lunchtime reading PC-forum, after work go home and study UDK and Unity. That's what Im doing everyday, I am not telling it is not fun actually it is awesome fun. I love what I do and I want to continue what I am doing. I cant imagine how much I learned in a game company, not only learning using software but by working in team. But still I sometime thinking of painting something, I'd better fill some gaps so I can paint something...yes yes.

Hi hi! I have started with a new scene, I did a rough sketch of how my scene will almost look like. I want some cartoon and realism in it, the mood color is hard to choose either bw or rainbow color. I havent seen any env artist done a bw scene before, so I might give it a try. It should be cool if it cartoon but in a cool way.
I will start with the modelling today let me see how far i can come today.

I found out I have changed my painting style, it was before a random abstract style I had. Now it seems I use only two brushes and it works really fine for me. It makes my paint more precise and show more shape than an abstract shape. So am I becoming better?

I did a really rough sketch and I was a bit slow today, I was thinking over and over what I wanted to paint today but still couldnt find any clue. So I came up with I only painted one or two medieval paintings before so why not paint the third one. This time I will not use any ref, textures or any help from the internet :), it will be pure as traditional art hehe. Now I will spend some time with it, until I get it done. This will take some time and I have no worry. But I want to put this on my portfolio later.

I cant say, this is one of the most funniest game I ever played when I was a kiddo.
Still it rox cause they put into so much effort in cutting them into pieces in details.
The favourite weapon for 1 would be the plasma gun. And in 2 would be the shotgun.

Mattepaint tutorial

This is a cheap and fast method to do it if you are in hurry or just want to get something done as possible. I am not calling this is cheating, I am just helping you save time as it comes to deadline or money.
1. For getting a scene you can take which photo you like, I usually take a wide photo with some buildings. This is a quick way to do is you already have all things done here. Best is to go out and take photos on buildings and stuff, collecting your own ref library is the best.
2.Now I usually create a blue channel for masking, and separate the sky and the ground for each layer. That way I can easily switch in between layer and work easier. I always start with the rough paint to see where the eyes point first in, it is easy the tower of course.
3.And now I am adding some details, now you can choose to add texture to it or you can paint some texture, I choose to paint because this is anyway a sketch. But it is good to add some extra texture for more details of course. In mattepaints the vantage point is extremely important. Without the point it is hard to catch the viewers interest. Believe me I have done a lot of mistakes too.
The last part I regret what I did so I delete the bottom part because I dont want the style to look like Dylan Cole hehe.

Ugh!!! I need to punish myself, I have played too much BC2 and I need to quit. It is destroying my plans to preparing my second portfolio. I have only weekends and some free time at night. So actually I dont have enough time, I need to focus now.

Ok anyway I did today a progress of a mattepaint, I can explain a bit how I did.
1. First I painted a rough sketch and put some basic color in it. I usually do this first to get a view and an idea of how the result would be in the end.

2.Now when I get an idea of the mood I start to search over some photos (digging up some photos from my library) and refix the light and shadow and color of photos. It is really important to fix the view and size of the photos to fit with the environment. Ok I added some dummies the details will be last now focus on the rough first.

3.Ok now for the details, I mixed with some buildings from 3dtotal and my own and did some paintover to them. Now for the details and details and details I added two layers that balance the mood of the whole paint. Now I am pretty happy with it, hope you learnt something:)

After some paints I start to get some idea from the paintings and I wanna do one more chinese environment in 3d. This one is going to be lots of dirt dirt and dirt. It will going to have a day light and warm sun. Im not sure if it will going to be sci fi or steam punk. I need to watch some anime movies and some games to get some inspiration from them. And want to learn some advance lighting from UDK, they have some awesome light features that I wanna use. All is planned and now I am doing a schedule.
